Recycling Guide

Paper Recycling

Recycling 1 ton of paper saves 17 trees, 7,000 gallons of water, and 3 cubic yards of landfill space. Remove plastic windows from envelopes, staples are okay. Shred sensitive documents before recycling.

Plastic Tips

Check the recycling number (#1-7). Rinse containers, remove labels when possible. Caps can usually stay on. Most programs accept #1 (PETE) and #2 (HDPE). Bags often need special drop-off locations.

Glass & Metal

Glass can be recycled infinitely without quality loss. Aluminum cans save 95% of energy vs. new production. Steel is the most recycled material globally. Rinse food residue before recycling.

Electronics (E-Waste)

Never trash electronics - they contain valuable metals and hazardous materials. Find local e-waste recycling events or retailer take-back programs. Wipe data before recycling devices.

Composting

Food scraps make up 30% of household waste. Composting reduces methane from landfills and creates nutrient-rich soil. Compost fruit/vegetable scraps, coffee grounds, eggshells, and yard waste.
